The Golden Edit: October's Best Virtuoso Travel Specials

Six Virtuoso offers worth booking this month, from pink-sand beaches to the Costa Smeralda.

October is when the best trips of the coming year quietly get booked. The light goes golden, the calendar finally opens up, and summer is far enough behind you to start daydreaming again. So I'm starting a new monthly series: The Golden Edit. Each month it'll gather the Virtuoso specials I'd book for myself, or for you.

A Trip for One is a Virtuoso member and an affiliate agency of PTN Travel, which means a lot of offers cross my desk. Most are fine. A few remind me why working with an advisor matters: nights that cost less, breakfast for two, upgrades, and access to suppliers who treat you like a regular on your very first visit.

This month's edit follows the calendar, and the light, for a full year. It starts on rose-colored sand this fall. From there it moves to a savanna at sunrise, then to twinkle lights over a German market square and candlelight in a 14th-century Italian palazzo. Next comes rainforest green, and it ends next October with the sun setting over the Mediterranean. Pick a season and pick a light. Every offer's terms are laid out in full, so you'll know exactly what you're booking.

1. Pink Sands Resort, Harbour Island: 15% Off This Fall

The light: rose-gold sand at golden hour.

Harbour Island is small and barefoot, the kind of place where golf carts outnumber cars. It also has three miles of sand that is actually pink. Pink Sands Resort sits right on that beach, with 32 rustic-chic cottages, villas, and homes scattered through tropical gardens. Many come with their own private pool. A typical day might be a Thai massage, a yoga session, a horseback ride along the shoreline, then a long, unhurried stretch on a lounger by the oceanfront infinity pool. You won't need the group chat, and you won't have to compromise. It's just you and the sea breeze.

Insider tip: Make the trip over to Eleuthera's Glass Window Bridge. It's a narrow strip of rock with the deep navy Atlantic on one side and the calm, aquamarine Bight of Eleuthera on the other, and it's an instant core memory.

The Particulars

  • The offer: 15% off the resort's Best Available Rate

  • Travel dates: Now through December 17, 2026

  • Book by: No published deadline; subject to availability

  • Good to know: A daily resort fee may apply. I'll confirm the current fee before you book.

From pink sand to red earth: if this fall calls for something wilder than a beach lounger, the next special trades ocean views for the savanna at dawn.

2. Micato Safaris, East Africa: Safari Season Before Year's End

The light: the savanna at sunrise.

There are safaris, and then there's Micato. The family-run company has spent more than five decades perfecting the East African safari, and it shows in the details. You get a dedicated Safari Director with you the entire way, 24/7 concierge support, and luxury camps and lodges in some of Kenya's and Tanzania's most extraordinary wildlife country. This season Micato is featuring two journeys. One is an intimate private Kenya safari. The other is a grand sweep across two countries that includes a hot-air balloon ride over the plains, followed by a Champagne breakf

ast in the bush. This is the trip you'll talk about for years.

Option A: Private Kenya Safari (10 nights)

Route: Nairobi → Tsavo West National Park → Laikipia Plateau → Maasai Mara National Reserve → Nairobi

Includes:

  • 10 nights in luxury camps and lodges across Kenya

  • Day and night game drives tracking the "big five"

  • Entrance to Mount Kilimanjaro, Mara River, and Laikipia Plateau

  • Dedicated Safari Director and 24/7 concierge service

  • Complimentary framed photo

Option B: The Micato Grand Safari (12 nights)

Route: Nairobi → Amboseli National Park → Laikipia Plateau → Maasai Mara National Reserve → Serengeti, Tanzania → Ngorongoro, Tanzania → Nairobi

Includes:

  • 12 nights in luxury camps and lodges across Kenya and Tanzania

  • Canopy walks, plus a hot-air balloon ride followed by a Champagne bush breakfast

  • Entrance to Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Mount Kilimanjaro

  • Dedicated Safari Director and 24/7 concierge service

  • Complimentary framed photo

The Particulars

  • The offer: Featured itineraries with the inclusions listed above. This is not a percentage-off offer. Pricing is the best available rate, which I'll quote for your dates.

  • Travel dates: Through December 31, 2026

  • Book by: No published deadline; subject to availability

  • Good to know: Pricing is in U.S. dollars, per person, based on double occupancy. It may not include airfare, gratuities, taxes, and other fees. Traveling solo? Ask me about single supplements before you fall for a camp.

After the stillness of the savanna, December asks for the opposite: cobblestones, mulled wine, and a whole continent lit up for the holidays. Our next two specials are made to be booked together.

3. Pure Germany: A Private Tour of Europe's Christmas Markets

The light: twinkle lights over a market square.

Every holiday season, the German-speaking corner of Europe turns into one long, glittering Christmas market. Think Nuremberg, Dresden, Munich, and Berlin in Germany, Vienna and Salzburg in Austria, and Basel and St. Gallen in Switzerland. You browse handmade ornaments under strings of lights with a warm mug of Glühwein (German mulled wine) in hand, while the scent of roasted almonds drifts across the square. It's the kind of holiday mood a postcard can't quite capture.

PGSA Pure Germany, Switzerland & Austria (Pure Germany for short) is a luxury destination specialist for all three countries. Its team of travel designers and true-local guides plan private, behind-the-scenes experiences you can't book on your own, from master artisans and traditional craftsmanship to WWII history and even genealogy for anyone tracing family roots. Pure Germany also donates a percentage of every booked trip to tree-planting organizations in Germany. That's a nice thing to know while you're shopping for gifts.

The Particulars

  • The offer: A featured experience, not a percentage-off offer. You can add a private visit to one of these Christmas markets to a custom itinerary in Germany, Austria, or Switzerland.

  • Featured private tours: Privately guided walking tours of Leipzig, Heidelberg, and Berlin. Each can be built into your holiday itinerary.

  • Travel dates: November 22 – December 23, 2026

  • Book by: No published deadline. Market season is short and the best guides book up early, so plan this month.

  • Good to know: Terms and pricing vary by program and will be confirmed when you book.

Here's the move: market-hop through Germany and Austria, then take the scenic train south over the Brenner Pass and wake up in Italy in time for Christmas.

4. Due Torri Hotel, Verona: Christmas in a 14th-Century Palazzo

The light: candlelight under frescoed ceilings.

If Pure Germany is the prelude, Verona is the grand finale. Rock stars and opera singers stay at Due Torri when they come to town, and you'll understand why the moment you walk in. The hotel occupies a 14th-century palazzo in the heart of Verona's historic center. It still has its original 1370s columns and frescoed ceilings, and its 89 soundproofed rooms and suites are dressed in period furnishings. Days are for wandering the city's festive streets. Evenings are for a nightcap in the lounge where Verona's nobles once gathered. For the view, the rooftop Panoramic Terrace puts the whole city at your feet.

Choose a December weekend for Verona's own holiday markets, or go all in with the Christmas Package. It includes a specially curated Christmas Day lunch, the kind of slow, festive table Italians do best.

The Particulars

December Weekends: Christmas Markets

  • 2 nights: 20% off

  • 3 nights: 25% off

  • Both include: Stay for two people, daily breakfast, and an upgrade (subject to availability)

Christmas Package (includes a festive Christmas lunch on December 25)

  • 2 nights: 20% off

  • 3 nights: 25% off

  • Both include: Stay for two people, daily breakfast, Christmas Day lunch, and an upgrade (subject to availability)

For all four packages:

  • Travel dates: December 4 – 26, 2026

  • Book by: No published deadline. December weekends fill quickly, so I'd reserve this month.

  • Good to know: Packages are priced for two guests. Upgrades depend on availability at check-in and aren't guaranteed. A daily fee may apply, which I'll confirm for you.

Once the holiday glow fades and January settles in, you'll want something green, warm, and a little wild. Central America has two very different answers.

5. Namu Travel: Central America, Two Ways

The light: rainforest green and volcano sunsets.

Namu Travel's Central American journeys come in two very different moods, and you only need one. Costa Rica is pure adrenaline: whitewater, waterfalls, and the jungle after dark. Guatemala moves at a gentler pace, with colonial churches, textile villages, and a cooking class in a local home. Both are arranged down to the last transfer, so all you have to do is show up and be present.

Option A: Extreme Costa Rica Escape (7 days)

Route: Siquirres → San José

Includes:

  • Rafting the Pacuare River to a secluded jungle retreat

  • Rainforest hike and a waterfall rappel

  • Zipline canopy tour above the jungle floor

  • Night hike with a naturalist guide

  • Biking along Lake Arenal with views of the volcano, jungle, and farmland, then exploring the countryside by ATV

  • Private walking tour of Antigua's colonial landmarks, historic churches, and tree-lined streets

  • Summit hike up Pacaya Volcano, with highland views and a picnic or artisanal pizza

  • Helicopter flight from Antigua to Lake Atitlán over volcanoes and highlands

  • Visits to the villages of San Juan and Santiago for local art, textiles, and traditional culture

  • Private cooking class in a local home, learning traditional Guatemalan dishes

Travel dates: Through August 26, 2028

The Particulars

  • The offer: Featured itineraries with the inclusions listed above. This is not a percentage-off offer. Pricing is the best available rate, which I'll quote for your dates.

  • Virtuoso exclusive benefits: These apply only to the Costa Rica itinerary's stays at Nayara Tented Camp and Pacuare Lodge. Upgrades and early check-in or late checkout depend on availability.

  • Book by: No published deadline; subject to availability

  • Good to know: Pricing is in U.S. dollars, per person, based on double occupancy. It may not include airfare, gratuities, taxes, and other fees.

We've covered sand, savanna, snow-dusted markets, and jungle. To close the year, we come full circle: back to Italy, back to the sea, and back to October.

6. 7Pines Resort Sardinia: 20% Off a Costa Smeralda Summer

The light: a Mediterranean sunset from a private cabana.

Picture next October. While everyone else is booking their year, you're watching the sun drop into the Mediterranean from the Costa Smeralda. 7Pines Resort Sardinia sits on 37 lush acres along one of Europe's most beautiful stretches of coastline. Its 75 rooms and suites are scattered through fragrant gardens and finished in sea and sand tones. Snorkel or kayak through secluded coves. Pedal a complimentary e-bike along cypress-lined paths, or cruise the coast aboard a luxury yacht. Book an organic spa treatment inspired by Sardinia's wild herbs, then linger over island flavors at one of the seafront restaurants. Laid-back, sun-drenched, and quietly glamorous. No notes.

Insider tip: Claim a private cabana at the beachfront Cone Club for watersports, light bites, and cold drinks delivered to your lounger. At sundown it turns into the resort's liveliest spot, with live DJs.

How to Book October's Virtuoso Specials

Every offer above is booked through a Virtuoso travel advisor. That's me. Booking this way gets you the published offer, plus Virtuoso amenities where they apply, and someone in your corner who reads every line of the fine print so you don't have to.

Here's how it works:

  1. Pick your light. Choose the trip (or two) that's calling to you.

  2. Book a consultation. We'll talk dates, room types, and how you like to travel: solo, with a plus-one, or with the whole crew.

  3. I'll confirm live availability and pricing and secure the offer before it closes.

What are Virtuoso travel specials? Virtuoso is a global network of luxury travel advisors and hand-selected hotels, cruise lines, and tour operators. Virtuoso specials are limited-time offers from those partners, such as percentage savings, upgrades, extra nights, or included experiences. You book them through a Virtuoso-member advisor.

Which October 2026 Virtuoso special has a booking deadline? 7Pines Resort Sardinia's 20% offer must be booked by February 1, 2027, for stays April 15 – October 26, 2027. Can I combine a German Christmas market trip with Christmas in Verona? Yes, and it's one of my favorite holiday routes this year.
